Have some miserable cold damp weather on the way then back to way too warm. I can do a quick clean out or burn fuel oil. Thoughts?

I've seen all the perspectives on conserving coal, with letting ash build up ect. However, I tend as usual just adding a tad less coal. Nothing like the radiant heat of coal. Hell even with a boiler doing radiant, baseboard & domestic I'm down to less than 50 # per day. And never do a cleanout till spring. I say just keep it running.

Was outside doing some sanding on baseboards today (flooring project) for 4 hrs...came inside and noted the difference in temps. 34 F outside .,,,,,

Where's did global warming now?

Stoker Coal Boiler: Van Wert VA-600 Custom & Probably the only guy in America with my Stoker Boiler in my Den.
Coal Size/Type: Rice

Yup you guys you're right, nothing like my Van Wert 600 stoker boiler
just sitting there at idle @ 160F, just waiting
for the next heat call. On a cold very rainy windy day like today.
A soon as you shut down weather gets cold again, so now I
never shut down...I stay lit until about the first week in June.

:D

It warmed up to 65 F here yesterday afternoon. Range had no trouble still running - even cooked a pot pie in the oven while I was doing some yard work. ;)
