I was cleaning up the old Chubb and was curious how the name McCarthy relates to the Chubby stove? The name is engraved on the lower ash door.

GOOD EYES TOM!!

The signature belongs to PAUL McCarthy who created the scroll work you see on the doors of all Chubby's. Paul is a true craftsman when it comes to wood work and as a little way to say THANK YOU for the work he did for the Chubby Stove Co, Larry asked him to etch his name in the mold for the door. To this day EVERY Chubby has his name on it.

His shop back in the day was in Scituate, MA but he now resides in Nantucket and makes some of the BEST wood signs in the New England area. Paul is class act and a true salt of the Earth kind of guy.

Grumpy, I traded it in for a newer model several years ago.

Thanks for the explanation OD. I think that is quite neat and a great way to honor him.

Just to be clear the "signature" has been there since the start and continues to this very day. :D

Nice piece of history. I never noticed that and Larry never mentioned it to me. The scrolling is very nice work!

No McCarthy on my door. Worn off? I have an old stove with a fire-view door.
