I'm looking to put a chubby in the girl friends house, and was wondering if there is a difference in the burn rate or is it just having the option for installation ease?

Hi! There is no difference in the burn rate between the top and rear vent models. The two options are for installation ease as you mentioned. Rear vent for fireplace installs and top vent for a "free standing" install. Though this of course depends on a variety of factors but as mentioned both stove perform the same and have the same specs. Please feel free to contact us at anytime with any questions. We are happy to help in any way we can. :D

I went with a used back vent off Craigslist. More like 2 of them. The trip was 10 hrs round trip. The add said chubby with a blower $125. When I contacted her she said she had an other chubby also for $100.... no brainer. 2 chubby's for $225. The one needed a grate and gaskets. I gps Chubby Stove co. And I'm only 30 minutes away, so I was on my way . I arrived at Chubby stove co. And I just missed Larry. The Lady of the house set me up with $200 in parts to bring the mechanics of the stoves up to par. Service with a smile.
One stove is older style pot and on is new style. Now the blower is mounted on the back of the stove and does not go through the stove.
