Hello all, I haven't been on in a little while but do have another question about the chubby stove! We haven't purchased one yet but will be doing so for next yr. but anyways, I've seen some post about heaping the coal up in the pot! Do you shovel it in thru the load door or have you dumped it in from the top thru the little plate/lid? Prolly think I'm nuts asking these questions and don't even own the stove yet lol, but just trying to get as much info as I can! I've scanned thru a lot of topics but haven't seen this question on there or I've missed it. That's all I did today was read about the chubby on nepa! Great site, lots of good info and really great people.

Go on the Chubby site and watch Larry's burning video as he covers his procedure well.

I think most here use the front door but whatever works for you do it that way. I use an aluminum ice scoop that holds over 80 ounces and that really speeds up the process, but my stove is the smaller version.

I have done it both ways. I usually shovel it in through the front door. I tend to keep a steam pot on top. Be sure to watch Larry's film on its operation. Great stove, you will enjoy it.

Thanks for the help! I have watched his video many times lol! When I hear "heap" the coal up, I'm thinking really "heap" it up, but yes his video is well done. Thanks again for the quick responses.

You do not want to fill the sides above the burn pot (in many stoves that is firebrick but its cast iron in a Chubby) but you can heap the middle up.

You can mound or heap the coal in a Chubby. Not a problem. :D
