Use fine steel wool and try Windex, coal ash, and anything else. I don't think you will get the red out, but it is important to make as clear as you can. The glass remains cooler and heat transfer better.

You can check for over heating of the glass by laying a straight edge vertically on the panes to see if they are bowed out.

That's the link to Myer's. They aren't cheap but they have everything you could ever need in stock. If your glass is bowed, it's not too hard to swap out. I've heard of other people on this board ordering the slats from local glass merchants, you can see if you can get a competitive price. I got my stove for 200, put 100 bucks into her, and then saved 500 in oil in the first half season (Feb 2013-May 2013). So don't despair, fix it right and the beer and waffles stove will make you a shocking amount of heat.

I did the fireplace install when I first got him. The toughest part is getting a good seal on the sheet metal you use to block around the 5in pipe going through the damper throat. The FIRE RATED!!! expanding foam helps.

Thanks confedsailor ,I emailed myer's because I thought I might need a thermostat but I think thats ok . But I heard back from them in about 20 mins. thought that was great but they are out of thermostats and can't find any yet. But when I read franco and your responses I looked at the glass closer and at least 5 or 6 are bowed and the one I pushed with my finger and broke it.(lol)

As far as the pipes go I was planning to run the pipe up through then use insulation around the pipe then some durarock with the foam . This is nuts New Hampshire has been hot as hell this summer not much rain , I have about 6 cord worth of wood dropped a needs to be cut up and I'm trying to get this stove ready. No beach for me.

You can use a one piece glass if you want to have one made. The slats allow a small amount of overfire air, and they do raise the efficiency a little because of heat passing thru the gaps easier. Its been done both ways by members here. Also, you cant use wood stove glass as it wont take the heat that coal produces. Just do a good job however you do it and you will be rewarded come winter time. :)

Some have used one piece of glass but I would be reluctant to do that because of the danger of breakage from flexing in the long narrow door.

I believe the original glass is Pyrex or its european equivalent. Secondary air is provided by a series of holes in the lower part of the door.

Its amazing the efficiency these were rated at. If panes are used instead of a solid piece of glass, what would the life expectancy of the panes be? Mine was a different model and I never had an issue with my one piece glass, but I rarely opened the front door except to clean the glass as I had a side door (lucky me!). You likely have a valid point.

I do remember my original panes warping very quickly, but I cant remember if it was wood or coal that did it.

I'm gonna stay with the glass it has and replace whats needed and try to clean up the rest best I can.
I kind of like the "keep it simple stupid" saying.

if they are reasonably priced, order spares. In a pinch if you have one break you can cover it with tinfoil or cut a piece of steel to fit the hole too. (I had it happen with mine and used tin) There isnt much that can happen that someone on here hasnt had happen or that cant be fixed or cobbled until a new part arrives.

Yea it does look like it didn't get a whole lot of use . I did take the thermostat off cleaned it all out and snugged up the cable to the dial and it doesn't snap open anymore . And I put some heat to the temp probe to make sure that works. (It does.)

The glass comes out next , figured I take them out before ordering in case I break anymore.
It looks like someone put a magnet on the back of this behind the air intake so when you open it it will only open to between 1 and 2 . Maybe because it snapped open . I included a pic of it.
