Just bought a used 30-95 to restore and then sell it. When cleaning the fire box, I was very surprise to see this kind of yellow color on the upper part of the combustion chamber. I have been heating with a similar Hitzer for the last 8 seasons, Never seen something similar before. Any help would be appreciated on this matter.

Looks like some burned sulfur residue. Who knows what was burned in it before.

coal fuel = Fly ash that carries some of the elements in the coal. Yellow residue = sulfur Red residue mostly = iron

Finally got rid of that stuff , you where right it is sulfur residue that had been accumulated over the years. I try something and it works pretty good, used a small electric sander with #60 sandpaper, took me 3 of them, everything dissipear quite well (very dusty job had to use a mask), and finalised as per Fred recommandation with WD40. Thanks everyone, very happy about results.

Just a side note:
Realize you did not use that stove personally, but some have found that to burn some wood with it's creosote in the last bit of the season and again early in the season will lay down a coating to combat that type of build up.

I started finishing the season with wood. That puts a very nice protective coating inside the stove, stove pipe, and chimney. I have never had a rust problem since I started doing that about 7 years ago. :)

You are right rev, I've done that à few times with my other stoves by hasard and noticed the difference, that's what we should do. Concerning that 30-95, did'nt found any traces of rust, that stove should be about 10 years old and in really good shape, some pics to follow...
