I found some Santa brand coal in stove size on Craigslist. Has anybody used Santa coal before? How does it burn? Heading out this morning to pick up 35 bags.

I had some a year or two back and it was fine. Clean and burned well The only issue I have with Blaschak is it seems to be consistently a tad under sized across all the sizes I have used. Pea, nut and stove. If the price is right GO FOR IT!.. Hope you have a GREAT THANKSGIVING!

Santa stove size burns fine for me, but I have to burn it exclusively in my Crawford because I can't buy bagged Lehigh Anthracite locally !!!!!!!!!

Burned well in the range. Much quicker to get temps up and wanted to run hotter than nut at the same damper openings, so it might need more damper restriction to keep at the same temps as nut. And a load didn't last as long with only about 10% less stove size by weight to fill the firebox - when compared to filling up with nut size.

Should work out much better in the larger firepot of the Andes.

And as mentioned you can mix it, or just switch over to all nut size at night to help slow down the fire and extend the burn times.

Having it on hand gives you more choice for loading for changing the heat output desired. ;)

The reason I want to get the stove size was so I could try to mix it with nut for the Andes. I also wanted to have some to try in the range so I could use it to cook at high temps if I wanted.

Thanks for all the feed back...I got 35 -40# bags for $175. He originally had the ad posted for $250 and yesterday came down to $200. I offered $175 and he said he would take that. I did not think that was too bad for 3/4 ton.

The attached photo shows the size difference between my bulk nut Blacshack and the stove size.

Fred, how do you mix your stove / nut mixture? I am thinking, put down some stove then top it off with nut.

My supplier loads his truck alternating buckets full of each & when he conveys it to my bins I get a good mix--yes, bulk.

I will wait until it gets a lot colder outside, I am sure it will burn hotter than just the nut. As Paul mentioned, it will be nice to have for my cooking range as well.

Randy I burned it in the WM my first year . It burned great but I felt like I got a shorter burn time as it took up to much space in the firepot .

I found that's why the nut/stove mix works real well.

Actually I just ended up using only nut . Never had a need after that to mix . Made it easier to buy whole pallets haha
