It's adjustable by loosening the center bolt.

It can't be a barrel dolly with the bolt sticking up in the center,it has to be for stoves or something similar with legs that fit the "spoons" & enough under-belly clearance for the adjusting bolt.

Here is a stove dolly that was for sale on Ebay. With the inner rails lowered roll it under the stove and then raise the rails with the lever and roll away.

They are both stove dollies. The cross shaped one is for use in showrooms. The other is for moving stoves around warehouses or showrooms without having to disassemble the stove. I use the mover all the time and you can pick up a whole range with ease. The mover is designed so that if you butt the stove up against two pegs at the rear of the mover, the stove can easily be tipped back so you can go around corners or over thresholds. Pretty neat for 1890 or so. Emery

How old do you think the cross shaped one is Emery?

I just gave one of them away yesterday. Got tired of moving it.

I picked up one similar to the one with curved handle. It didn't work out like I thought it would. So, I had a single fork pallet jack made. I moved the stove dolly around too many times. Gave it to Amish man yesterday. I thought it was an antique pallet jack. A stove dolly makes more sense now that I know what it is.scalabro wrote:Oh...dreams if finding the elusive Crawford branded stove dollie have been ruinedoliver power wrote:I just gave one of them away yesterday.
