My $50 Crane 404 Adventure.
did you ever find a new fire pot? I got my 404 15 yrs ago for $125 plus a cord of wood, plus coal, and pipe. My fire pot was warped and then cracked and just fell apart over the weekend. I had seen 1 when I first got it and it was like $500. now I went back to the same place and it is all but $700. Let me know how you made out.

Well, its finally happened. The 404 is fired in the basement. On day 3 as I type. The cracked, warped fire pot is still in it. The void behind the pot is filled with Kaowool and seems to make no difference. No MPD, for now, and no baro. I've had stove top temps at 600 and corresponding pipe temp was 160. I didn't think that was too bad. Opinions please. CO meter is at 0. Built a small wood fire, added some coal after 10 min, and away we went. Load and shake at 12 hour intervals. So far, so good.

Had to leave it. Couldn't get it out of the stove.

Art, would you like me to move this thread to the hand fired stove section? This is the "News and General Coal Discussion" section. But if this is where you want it, it's fine.

If it is bulging out I see no way to remove the fire pot without breaking it. It sits on the top flange and there is very little clearance between the edge of the flange and side of the fire pot.
