Have you done any poking or tending in that 13-14 hr burn?

success! 6am still hot, pot had only dropped maybe 2'' still had 4'' flames, opened ash pan door added 4 shovels sprinkled over the top, waited 5 min to catch did again then shook for 45sec had hot coals drop could see glowing from grate.. seems to be trucking along as if it had only been 2 hrs..

in that 13 hr span I only added 6 or so shovels and gave a shake around lunch I came in from preparing my snow blower for the blizzard tomorrow and noticed I hadn't filled it to the top...

10-11 hrs without touching it, Came home from work another 10 hrs still crusing at 74* in my house with 6" tall flames
I'm gonna give it another 2 hrs before I tend to it. At 12 hrs I'm just happy to come home to the same temp as Ieft and not have to start from scratch like I was doing with the wood.. You Guys got me convinced!
Thanks for all the tips and help

found another company local to me that sells reading brand coal bought 3 bags of stove, WOW what a difference in light time, I added to my 11 hr bed and it took off in 5 min verses 15-20 with the nut or pea, Im assuming due to the oxygen that can travel through, cheaper too $7 a 40lb bag

All of the information you guys have shares is awesome! I recently purchased an 20th century laurel stove with the same firepot design and hot blast door. I have been trying to find information on the purpose of it and how to properly use it (plus a small vent in the upper door above the window) and you guys solved the mystery. I have tried some coal that I got for free and it burned amazing and much like D. I have been having trouble with it going out when i go to shake the grates. However i did not realize you were supposed to fill the fire pot completely up. So much information, so much help. I think i will have success finally!
