Yes, seal the joints.

I would just wire brush to get anything loose off, and then use stove polish (Williams) or high temp. paint.

So, I brought home over the weekend my second Holland furnace, a 220A. Sadly while loading the bottom section onto the truck, it fell out of the sling we had fixed up for it, and cracked a few things. I do think I can braze them back together. Some of the broken parts I won't be using anyway.
