Not a bad idea at all. I have the stove temps written down. Thanks for the suggestion of writing down the weather stats too!

I found that I needed to write stuff down.. I finally got old enough that the brain's 'hard drive' was full, and I haven't figured out how to delete old useless files. I can still remember specs, weights, speeds and other 'required' stuff for airplanes I flew 30 years ago !! But have a hard time remembering what I did yesterday...
Anyway, the writen records do help understand some of the variables.

Your spinner knob settings will have to be relearned... I have to suggest that you write down what you try... it may seem silly, but there are enough variables that having it written down helps sort them out... and next year you will love haveing records to refer back to.
So: write down the outside temperature, the wind if you can guess it, or just say light/ med. / very windy. and then write down the number of turns open on the spinner knob, and take a look at the stove temp, and stack temps after the stove settles down for about 30 minutes...

Yeah, I used the guesstimate scale on the draft regulator. This is a B-34TJ and I have it cranked all the way to the lowest draft setting. The stove is holding the fire just fine and the draft is working, open approx. 3/4" at the bottom and moves slighty with the gentle 5-8mph breeze outside.
