What do you have your draft set at? How many spins open on the ash door spinner? Impressed it only uses 20 lbs./24 hours and is still drafting well enough to not go out in this warm weather.

I am running it at a turn and half during the day and turning it to 2 turns overnight, burning pea size, my chimney can suck a cat up it, very good draft.

That tee shirt must be keeping you warm in the snow. I see you have now taken to the air to help spread the word.

Up, up, and away!!

I did another ash/coal measurement today. This time I'm getting 12.7% ash, which is more realistic. My first outcome of 9.6% ash didn't include ash that has accumulated in the firebox nooks since it was measured after a clean out.

Update on the coal sizing. I'm LOVING the bigger coal with the nut/stove size mix this year. I hardly have time to get a quick shower in the morning between reload and ignition of the fresh coal. It recovers at least twice as fast as the nut size coal did and seems to hold even a more steady heat output thru the burn. Also, getting it to burn hotter-faster when its butt cheese cold, is even more effortless. I am already considering going all stove size next year while having a few bags of nut size from TSC (unless my coal guy can partition the load somehow) for the shoulder months when a cooler-slower burn is more desirable. 8-)

You have entered a space I once occupied  I too had this thought and after going all stove size one winter,(4 yrs ago), thinking I jumped ahead of the learning curve, I realized it was the mix itself that was so successful. It is like strange food combo's :) tuna sandwich with hot pepper relish etc :funny: The irony is 'nut and pea mix works best in my Vigilant as I bought both last season and had to mix myself. This yr the TSC Kimmels 'nut is my choice as they're not carrying pea size.
I would screen a batch or 2 of stove size before stuffing 6 ton under the house bro...but believe me I understand your excitement and comfort.
