Well the whole dang world has turned upside down now
We had a high of 25 at noon it’s 23 now(windchill 11) and it’s headed to 17 and
close to single digit wc.
Got the dial set on 2.5, mano says-.01 in 12 mph wind, the flap is open 1/4” and it’s a perfect 70 thru out
Now the bad part, I just shook down for the evening and have added 15 full pounds to the stove today. What a crock !!
Might let the house go down to 68 till the real cold gets here, I ain’t wanting to burn 40#’s a day this year

How many air wash holes open?

Feed the 1500 20# this evening.
Put 20 stones in the BB.

Gotta get passed the next 2 days.

Slight update working on coal use since October 16th when i started the stove
17.89 #’s a day for 39 days or about .75 pph

This number is skewed slightly higher because when you first start and fill the hopper you have another 20 pounds in there to form the cone from the top of the bricks to the bottom of the hopper then another 20 pounds in the hopper
So you have about 40 pounds in there that ain’t burning and you just keep refilling the very top few inches of the hopper
These result were achieved at just about dead idle with windows open thru out the house to keep the IAT from exceeding 70

The real findings on the new ceiling insulation and the grate area reduction in the stove will be a month of solid extreme conditions as is the norm here.
Previously even at -20 and about R5 in the attic we were able to maintain 70 IAT on 40 pounds every 24 hours
From this years early results it looks like that could be 30 pounds a day this winter

Would you be able to say that even with coal price increases that you are heating for the same price as last year?

Currently I don’t think so
Last year I was still burning Lehigh that I bought a TT load (22 tons)of in October 2016
This year I got 24 tons of Jeddo for twice as much ( that was still an ok deal considering current conditions)
If I manage to use 25% less coal this year it will be good but still more than previous costs I have been letting considerably more heat go up the chimney by using direct mode out the top of the combustion chamber AND admitting a good deal of outside air in the house to maintain comfort since I started this year
If the house was more closed up and I was using base mode my early use probably would have been much less than the 17.89 ppd previously stated
Forecasting says this area won’t see much less than low 30’s till January and February so it could be difficult to gauge

The thing is, as temps decline and I (1) close the windows and (2) go exclusively to base mode my use most likely won’t rise at all and may even drop slightly as the stove and insulation updates are allowed to start fully functioning together
It’s all hypothetical at this point

Brought home the next 1/2 ton of the new Jeddo coal today
Probably won’t use any of it till Friday night
I’ll mark the calendar and see how far it goes
Starting about the 5th we should be having mid 30* daytime highs that will close the window stats and we can start to see what is really happening with the stove alteration

The one in your back yard, wink, wink. Should lower consumption depending on size.
You will be applying sunscreen with sunglasses at night.

You and me both cousin
Not aware of anything incoming just yet but I’ve been surprised before
The alteration I was referring to was the grate reduction in FRANK

One I'm thinking of might be dangerous in a corner install. A Round one.

Got my eye on a mosterous 8 foot tall round one.
