Its probably been stated already but, put the bin closest to the stove AND where your delivery person can get to it without too much trauma .. :D

I'm a little late to the party, but I'm using a No. 6 coal shovel(special order from True Value Hardware).

I agree with others on here to try and get your coal as close to the furnace as possible. First is because it will be easier on the tender(you), and second is that the farther you carry the coal.....the more mess you are going to have(dust/spillage).

I'm currently carrying my coal for a distance of 16 to 22 feet to my furnace, via one No.6 shovel full at a time, from the coal bin, which is a separate room, and it's a pain.

Your layout offers options, mine doesn't.

thanks for the replies, im thinking im going to be building it over on that side once I figure out the distances with my water meter, and once I can convince the wife lol
