do you run with the ash door damper completely closed? I was nervous at first about closing it down but I’m seeing now that once its burning good it’s kinda hard to screw up unless you neglect the ash but I still haven’t tried to run it fully closed (i realize the nubs give a little airspace but still tend to back it off at least a turn)

Not completely, there is always at least a tiny sliver of primary air. Stove size coal is tricky to run real low and slow without developing dead spots, just so you are aware. Also the secondary air can influence it too. There is a lot of space between the pieces of coal so air coming in thru the load door vent will also infiltrate the fuel bed and help it burn, to a minor extent.hotassed1357m wrote: ↑Sun.
