Looks like about -6 outside still some wind but not as bad as earlier. Inside is a comfy 69 with the koker holding a pretty steady 450 temp above the door.

This is one of those times Im glad I don't do a lot of calculations when it comes time to do installs.
i look outside and figure a windage coefficient, (looks like we could get alot of wind over there, not so much over here) Insulation coefficient (boy theys not much insulation in here) window /door coef. (gee windows and doors are new) ahh screw it ... what was the size of the one were replacing, lets add 30k to that
Now to answer the question
-7* outside on porch
weather rock moved 3' east overnight
68* up and down
floor toasty
coffee hot
school closed
Now if only FF hadnt run off all the sheep

Good morning all. Here in Upstate NY, in the snow belt area, it was 0° at 7am. 74° in the living room where the stove is. Stove temp is 500° on the barrel. These older manufactured homes are not well insulated and you can feel the wind come right through the place. Very thankful for this coal stove, the electric heat would not cut through this wind!
Ok, I am going to teach Ya'll how to put in the degree symbol (°)
After you type in the temp numbers, while holding down your 'alt' key, type in the following numbers 0176 (zero, one, seven, six), then let up the alt key and wa-la, the symbol appears. Not sure how to do this on a Mac, but will work with a PC.

This is one contest I don't want to win!!! We had -3 ° as a temp with a wind chill of -19 ° . Damn Randy it works!!!! Niot that I will remember it 5 minutes from now but thanks for trying!! Temp inside is holding steady at 70 °. That is too cool!!
Nice tip! Thanks. Now maybe someone can return the favor by showing you the proper spelling for "voila."Photog200 wrote:

Put the fire to bed at 3am, then wife tended it at 8:30am. Outside is -5F, inside was down to 62F, but already up to 65F and rising. Big leaky house takes a while to warm up.
87 yr old Grandparents' water is frozen, and animals need extra tending in this -35F wind chill, so one more cup of hot coffee and out I go. Whoo-hoo!

Warmed up to 10° outside but the wind is blowing; no idea what that translates to wind chill wise. 73°+ on the first floor & 74° in my office on the second floor. Just turned the Hitzer down a notch. Too damn hot!

1.4 degrees outside with windchill of -10 degrees. Turning thermostat up to see just how warm I can get the house with the new coal boiler. 76 degrees inside so far. If it makes it to 80 degrees I'll be impressed,....and relieved. If it can handle 80 degrees today, 68 degrees when it's at the historical low temperature here of -22 shouldn't be a problem. I actually don't have the feed rate maxed out yet. 4 inches of dead ash on the end of the stoker. Water temps set at 160/180. Could go up on those as well if necessary. I'm not touching it today, however.

Wow guess we didn't have it all that bad today .... 6° above this morning .. was up to 8° last I checked. Did have the howling 20 mph+ gusty wind earlier - weather station said the wind chill on the roof was 1°.
Boiler is definitely happier. Stack temp is consistently 50° cooler than it was before the cleaning. Got the baro uncovered, and just one little square of paper on the combustion blower intake, and no CO alarms or stink. BIG difference! Guess I should start cleaning this thing once a month at a minimum ....

Has your draft improved with the cold temperatures? My Baro seems to be opening further. Draft over fire is still where it should be.

8 degrees outside now. 79 degrees in the back room where the Baker is and 72 in the front room. Pipe temp 18 inches above the stove and below the Baro is just under 200 degrees.

Well, it looks like 77 degrees is where the snot runs out at temps of just above zero and windchill of -10 degrees at current boiler settings. I'm happy with that. Assuming heat loss is linear, it probably isn't, I should be good to -10 degrees without increasing feed rate or boiler temps.

Well,we had - 5* at 7 A/M winds gusting to near 30 mph,we filled the OWB at 9 P/M & waited till 7:15 A/M to fill again, only had wood coals left 6 " over entire bed,3 buildings sucking all the heat they could get,i've filled the OWB several times already today ,finally at 11:45 A/M all buildings & OWB have caught up & are at the normal operating range. WE AIN'T GOING THRU ANOTHER WINTER WITHOUT A COAL STOVE IN OUR HOUSE,which is the only building we can put a stove in, Waldo,i like your BTU calculator, keep warm & indoor as much as possible everyone.
