Maybe a little. Loaded up and thought it to be burning good. Came back later, sat down in front of it as I usually do and opened the door. It was like slow-motion, I saw the fire ball coming and even thought "oh no", but didn't make it out of the way in time. Went up stairs and showed the wife who found the situation very comical. Lessen learned I guess. lol!

The Harman factory is in Halifax PA about 30 miles north of Harrisburg.I have owned 3 different Harmans including a S F 3500.My only complaint was their fire brick system. The brick keep working their way off the small ledge they created to hold.it.

The puffbacks from an 82 are no laughing matter. You have been given good advice about how to avoid them, but if you still get them once in a while...try a large paperclip on the inlet air flapper.

I'd buy the Harmon, they have better handles and build quality. The Harmans do more with less, they are smaller stoves sizewise, but they heat as much or more than a large stove. The doors, sides, legs, hinges, etc. are beefier and thicker metal.philthy wrote:Between a Hitzer 82-fa and a Harman SF-2500 which would you guys recommend? Both are in good shape and both are priced the same. Only wanna burn coal...

What is the going rate for a Harman SF-2500?
As for Harman's being "smaller", I suspect you are thinking about their stoves...not the SF-2500 hand-fed furnace.

You don't need service with a Harman, nothing goes wrong with it.buffalo bob wrote:go with the hitzer customer svc. is great...forget about calling the Harman factory..
That's like saying buy a Yugo, the service is great....gimme a break !
If you have to call the factory, you bought the wrong stove !!

My Harman I heats better than an older stove I had previously, that had 2x size firebox, because the Harman has a smoke shelf/recirculating baffle in it, like an early base burner did, and also a fan, superior firebrick, built in raking handle on the outside. I haven't changed so much as a bolt on it in 12 years. The gaskets were changed as a courtesy by the guy that installed the chimney, it didn't even need them. The Harman is WAY more efficient. If you bought one, you'd forgettabout all those other stoves.Rob R. wrote:What is the going rate for a Harman SF-2500?

Hitzer isn't even in the same league, they aren't even on the same floor or in the same building with Harman.
The Harman Mk I runs rings around the Iron House Newcastle, and the Newcastle is bigger. The Harman burns 1 bucket a day, the Newcastle 2 buckets a day, same days, and the Harman heats better with 1/2 the coal.
need I say more ?

He already told Fred he needs a cathedral ceiling and now he needs to get rid of the Hitzer. Can't fight that logic.SMITTY wrote:F.Fred? Any comments on that?

Had the Hitzer in operation for over a week and love it. Shut it down last night to replace the grates (previous owners fault) which arrived two days after ordering. I'm sure the Harman is good but will testify on the customer service from Hitzer. I'm a happy camper. Cathedral ceiling not needed!

Nice p. --SMITTY, I'm still waitin for cc to respond to a couple questions I asked earlier. BUT-the man has a new, real tight small house or town house even, that he has OUTSTANDING results with his teeny Mark I, Soooo, I really don't think he has a clue about what most of us are heating here or heating WITH--I will say that he appears to be a well READ person--yet as we all know, the proof is in the pudding, not speculation nor minimal, if any experience. I do think it's a shame that he's posting so much misinformation. Just an old farmers thoughts:)---by the way--I fixed my problem--
