New DSM Circulator Baffle Plate W / Pics

Modern and vintage hand fired coal stove are similar to a wood stove and in some cases can burn either. They need to be regulated and fed by hand usually every 12 to 24 hours depending on your usage. They require no power to operate making them ideal for rural settings with long power outages.

hi, here's some pics of the baffle, when the hopper is in the stove the front edge of the baffle is 2" behind the back face of the hopper.

the stove is now set at lowest intake position, waiting for it to coast back down after shake down and recharge to see what temp. it's going to produce.

the FC RC Baro arrived today. the clearances on that thing are HUGE, seems like even if it never opens it's going to slow and cool the stack temps AND rob the house of plenty of warm air I just paid to heat up. :?:

Is that baffle only included on the newer stoves? Mine was manufactured a few weeks before I picked it up in July 2012, and it came with that baffle installed.

rberg has commented that his 1300 is now 18 months old and doesn't have it.

yours is presently the earliest one KNOWN to have it. I haven't made any attempt to ask at DSM when it was added to production.

yeah, the absence in the 1300 was part of the original point of interest. it's presence in my 1400 was not expected after viewing the pics on messick stove.

i see no reason it can't be sized and applied to the 1300 too.

Lol. I collect and restore coal stoves. Its just a hobby not a profession. I usually have 3 stoves hooked up at any one time. 2 in my house and 1 in my hunting cabin. I will rotate stoves "IN USE" yearly just because I enjoy playing with them and their different designs. The only stove that stays in place permanently is the D.S. 1600 because its the workhorse more than the others that I play with. I have to say the D.S. is a " fire and forget " stove. I set it and shake at 24 hours in the shoulder season and 12 hours when it gets nasty out.

I called DSM today about another issue and also asked about the baffle. Model 1300 is not as deep front to back as the larger circulators. There is not enough clearance behind the hopper to accommodate a baffle.
Simple answers for simple minds.
