Air Circulation Again

Yep it's the not so new guy with another question.I recently opened up the filter door on my forced air furnace (natural gas)Which never gets used because my handfired keystone (70) will cook you out of the house.I put a box van up to the furnace and I'm sucking air from the upstairs (where the coal stove is) through the return vents down into the basement trying to heat up the basement for the kids to play
It works to some degree maybe 3 to 4 degrees warmer .Now this morning I was thinking maybe I should turn the fan around and try blowing the cold basement air up into the upstairs(where the coal stove is)In turn making a better loop by forcing the warm air back down the basement stairs .

What do you guys think

Guess it depends on your set up but you'd probably just create a loop for the cold air. In other words you'd just be circulating cold air.

I was thinking by making the upstairs more positive it would force more air to be exchanged in turn sending more air down stairs.

Guess it depends on where your return vents are but if they are in the floor the coldest air is going to get forced back downstairs.

The return vents are in the floor but if I was blowing the air up from the basement through the returns .
It might force more air down the open stair way to the basement or not ?

Cold air goes down, you'll force the cold air upstairs and it's just going to go back down the steps.
