- Baseburners & Antiques: Reading Stove Works Penn circa 1900
- Coal Size/Type: Nut
- Other Heating: nat gas
The stove was moved from Newark, NJ in 1937 to Verona, NJ where it sat untill 1966. Then moved to Parsippany, NJ where it sat untill now. In all these years it was only used to burn wood chunks for 4 years. The stove is very ornate and uses ising glass in the 3 doors. The coal bowl (hand feed) is 10" in diameter and 8" deep, perfect condition. The bowl is curved inward to a rectangular flat grate about 4" x 4 1/2". The grate has slots. To dump ash the grate slides toward the right. The body is very ornate with 2 foot rests. The stove was never painted I cannot find any info so here's the deal. I will send a few premo cigars to whoever posts the best info or link to info on this stove. I know how you all like pics, I'm working on that part.
Hum, I don't smoke but will try to do my best if I can help you My Golden Bride has Penn written on the back of about allparts. Penn Garnet is the same (about) stove as my Golden, I have an old catalod from Penn, Stoves-Ranges And Furnaces, catalog number Fifteen, but no Grand 30 in it. So if you can send some photos it could help.Smoker858 wrote:The stove was moved from Newark, NJ in 1937 to Verona, NJ where it sat untill 1966. Then moved to Parsippany, NJ where it sat untill now. What a beautiful stove you have there. I am working on photos. Thank you for the reply.
Hey Smoker, what about the cigars, do I deserve them
Seriously you said Penn Grand 30. Are you shure of the 30 No? You said the fire pot was 10" and usually the No reffers to the fire pot's size, on the photo ( 2 clics on it) you can see the No 12 on the oval small lower door meaning the stove has a 12 " fire pot.

Is there any cast markings on the inside of te doors that give you a part number and usually a manufacturer a long with the city and state it was made. Sometimes there are stoves out there that you just can't find any info on but Pierre seems to have a good lead

Nortcan, the stove and I are currently 150 miles apart. When I get back home I will finalize pics and unbox the remainder of the parts to search for additional clues.

I am still working on the stove in bits and pieces. It was made in Reading, Pa by the Mt. Penn Stove Works.
I am looking for a foundry who can cast a broken wall or a welder who can repair the piece.. There is a good measure of intricate work in the original.
The top square is where the door was removed, the bottom is where an inlay (Ladies Head) was removed.
What do you recommend?

Even though it has been 5 years, I posted a "new" thread on the Penn Grand 30. Just finished up the final assembly. If anyone finds info the cigar offer still stands.
