Yup I talk to Larry often and things are going to happen.

The thing about the chubby is that it just about as simple as possible yet the styling is appealing. That's very hard to do. That several other companies have copied it is frustrating but flattering.

I have a Chubby Sr. and simply love it. I've been to Larry's place up in Mass, great guy! Traded in a rear vent for a top vent last February. I had the old style fire pot. Had to open the ash door to shake the stove down. What a nightmare, cloud of ash belched out from the stove everytime! New style fire pot is heaven! His stoves are beautiful pieces of functional artwork! Simple stove, practically idiot proof. Only problem I see is the hole where the shaker rod goes through the stove eventually wears. Would be nice to make something that is replacable. Possibly fabricate a washer that can be changed when worn. I'm working on it! I'll let you know if I have any success! May have to see what Larry can do.

I think you can Braze a heavy washer there to the outlet face. I think I saw some Chubbys like this before.

What I think you are describing is "shaker rod washer wear" that happened with the old style shakers on the first Chubby Stoves. The shaker post pivots between the bottom door hinges and the old style fire pots that caused the wear are no longer used. Last ones were made in the late 70s.

With the new style firepots and a double thick #8 hardened washer, it has been solved! The only reason I know this little tidbit of info is I happened to ask Larry about it when I was down there last week. I hope this helps. If not, don't be shy about giving Larry a call. He is the master and I am sure he can explain it and make better sense of it than I can! One thing is for sure the new style shakers are SWEET!

ONEDOLLAR, you are absolutely right. I spoke with Larry the other day and he explained it just as you did. He now uses a thicker washer that prevents premature wear. So, Hakuna Matata! And yes, the new style fire pot is SWEET!!! Coming from an original design, the new style fire pot is like owning a completely different stove. Happy Holidays and stay warm friend!

Yea... I talk to Larry for 15 minutes on the phone today and learned more about possibilities and past times and the industry, etc. The man is wealth of knowledge for sure and I would look forward to him being on the forum... (of course he wont be as sarcastic or verbally free as me to joke around and play ) but it would be great to hear his advise directly on a lot of different things.

I hope I get to see something like the Trainer, "Radiant Gem Base Heater," or something like that.

If possible, I would like to see the new fire pot and grate. If someone has photos that would be great.

Thanks guys, I didn't had a look at Larry's new web-site. Very nice and modern. Hope the best for him, having USA made anth stoves is important for the future...
