NEWSFLASH**** Freetown has become a seperate entity & refuses to participate in any environmentally questionable topics. Warming & bullshit reign supreme in our search for self sustainability. 18* F--+ 5* wind chill

I was down for a total of one day. The stove was up and running again by Sunday afternoon. My oil furnace ran around 8 times Sunday before I sais, "No more." and relit the stove. I've been running straight Pea in it though.

been down for almost 2 weeks until yesterday. I got home from work and the house was 60 and dropping and I got that look from the wife.
quickie cleaning and back up it went. house was 75 in about 2 hours while I was workin on the car. I guess I'll let it run the rest of the week since I have the extra coal to spare.
Happy (warm) wife, happy life!

I haven't been down at all. Just let the Mark II idle during the warm weather. Just picked another 1/2 this morning. I refuse to sit around in a cold house anymore.

Of course if people would put thier location in thier profiles, it would be more interesting comparing geographic weather info. Crap, nobody's gonna steal ya! You & me both SB
Here in Allentown PA, fired up the VC Vig fireplace insert last night, after a couple weeks rest. Strange spring. Almost had to turn on AC last week and Easter bunny is still a week or two away! Strange spring. We could really use some rain though.

Glad I left the Herald going. It was 18 degrees this morning with howling winds. Even relit the Glenwood too! After all, it is only March! We were all carried away by those 84 degree days. I saw a guy in my neighboorhood tilling his garden! LOL!

I also fire back the Mark back up. Let me tell ya something, a bag of cheap easy light charcoal is a hell of a lot quicker and cleaner way of starting a coal fire. Figured what the hay ive browsed the threads on how to light a fire and figured why not giv it a shot. I know next year for the next light that I'll have a bag of charcoal handy.

I used the Royal Oak Natural Wood Charcoal for the first time a few days ago to re lite my furnace. Cut my coal starting routine time in half I won't use paper and sticks again unless I have toanthony7812 wrote:I also fire back the Mark back up. I use a bag and a half of Cowboy Brand Charcoal to light my fires. I love the looks I get from people in Lowe's when I buy it.
'Oh, that's quite a bit of charcoal. Having a party this weekend?'
"Nah, I'm cold. Gotta light my stove and this makes it easy to do.'

Just made a hole in the ash bed size of #10 can...
Never cleaned out the ash...
Knowing the warmth was just a tease...
It is never this warm on the cape this early...
Surrounded by ocean still at low 40's...
Nice in the summer and better in the fall 'cause the ocean moderates the temps...
fill with real wood charcoal ,Cowboy, starting jelly, put flame to it, open air and add coal...
Keeps the coal used to 40# to startup...
The stove holds 160# +...
Just feedin' it slow...
Crazy weather it snowed on the cape last night...
Bay effect...

Yep the charcoal works great for me too. Especially in the cylinder stove. I can't get cowboy during the winter so I bought a small bag of matchlight at the supermarket. 2-3 scoops (about 1/3rd to 1/2 a bag with a couple scoops of nut surrounding, throw in a match and wait 15 or 20 min. and then add the nut a couple scoops at a time for faster up to temp running. I could just fill it then but it would take a longer recovery time.
The other side of the coin is my Glenwood cookstove/range. That stove lights easily with a a few wraps of newpaper, and 4 splits of cedar, topped with one half round of maple cut into small 1-2" pieces. Because this stove will run on either wood or coal and does both quite well, it just seems to be easier with wood kindling. Once the stuff is going well in direct mode I start to throwin a a couple scoops of nut at a time every 15 min or so and with-in an hour its ripping and I can pull the "oven" lever (it's like the baseburner circuit) cut the air to a slit and see ya in 8- to 10 hours.

IOF...
Easy on the Cowboy...
1/3 of a bag...
Save some ash from the last burn...
Use it as a base...
The full 1.5 bags must make quite the spark show...
