Have you ever heard if such a thing? I refuse to shut the stove off with this warmer weather this early in the season, but if these 80 days keep up, the AC might be coming on :D

This weather is whacky to say the least. I've had the windows open every day and I've been leaving one open at night. The stove has been idling around 180°-200° for a week+. I may shut down in early April.

The weather has been warm this week and next week might see close to 80 degrees here. My baseboard radiators turned on this morning for the first time in a week. I had the bedroom window open at night all week and had to turn down the thermostat to 60 *. The outside temps. might be warm and hot, but it's still cold and damp at night. I will keep my boiler running till mid April since this will be my only heat I'm using and won't dare turn the oil gun on EVER.

Sounds good to me. Since this whole treehugger movement has taken off since the O-man got elected, I started all my cars, trucks, motorcycles, & lawn equipment & just let them all run. Haven't done a carb clean since!

Sounds like you southern guys have been getting some real warm days. We have been getting about 30* at night and today we got up to 54* and sunny. I'll keep heating with coal as long as the days are cooler than I want the indoors to be. Stove has been idling great. I had a problem with draft this past fall due to too many fines in the coal. This spring, no problem now that I am into a part of the bin that doesn't have hardly any fines. :smoke:

Rex,I know how you feel but you have to think of the cost of the electric(cooling) and the coal(heat) at the same time vs the cost of some other type of heat if you need it(and I"m sure we will,It's early yet)for me it was a safety factor rather then a cost(my chimney drafts for *censored* in the warm weather)so I shut it down and cleaned it up for the year,I would rather pay for electric(heat pump) or oil(If it gets real cold)then risk my family's safety :stretcher: but that's just me and my situation(and my opinion) and may not be yours.Take care Keepaeyeonit :)

I'm not shutting down yet and it is supposed to hit 60 here tomorrow. I even saw a woodcock last night, poor bastard was trying to find a worm in the hot top roadway. However, the 5 inches of snow we had this morning is down to shaded areas tonight. Gotta love that global warming stuff! 8-) Keep it coming.

I've seen mosquitoes, moths, butterflies and wasps already. All the cherry blossoms have bloomed and the trees near me are starting to get leaves. It's too early but I'm not complaining.

Until today the various weather services were calling for an overnight low of 19 degrees here on the 24th, with a high of 35 degrees on the 25th. This morning I see where that has changed, and the coming cold spell has vanished into warmth.
