I saw the forcast too, I'm probably gonna keep it burning thru Sunday and Sunday night. Monday morning I'm considering letting it burn out and just fire up the wood pellet stove at night. I hate to waste coal thru the warm days with windows open so it doesn't get over 80 in the house, just to keep the chill off at night. Those low temps for the nights during the week are even too warm for the coal furnace. Thats what I get for running an over sized furnace, but I'm not complaining when its 10 below outside lol
Thats my plan for next week as it stands right now. I can fire up the coal when we get another cold snap.
It will be hard to let my 12 week old fire go out though

I have to let mine go out tomorrow. All upper 50's and 60's in forecast so Im cleaning it out for the season tomorrow. Will switch to wood until end of May. I did burn wood for 3 days in December but its been one match since so Im very happy! 109 - 40 pound bags for about 4 months of being really warm. Beats the hell out of cutting 4 months worth of wood!
Next year I hope to join the 1 match club.

Could you just turn the furnace off,and let the fire to idle for the day, then at night refire the furnace, shake down ,reload till the next evening. It might be worth experminting with,if the fire goes out nothing lost since you were going to let the fire go out anyway.Lightning wrote:I saw the forcast too, I'm probably gonna keep it burning thru Sunday and Sunday night. Hey Dennis, I may give that a whirl on Sunday and see how it goes. I'll have to run the inducer all day so the draft doesn't reverse and if I shut the blowers off, I'll have to pull the filter so that at least air can convect so it doesn't get too hot. Its worth a try

[quote="Vangellis"]Not sure what I'll do next week, but not exactly coal burning weather.
Yea thats not going to be a good coal week. Wednesday and thursday this week, I lowered my boiler temp down to 160, and opened idle air slide about halfway. It stayed burning, small glow deep in center of coal, maintained 160 temp. It revitalized with the help of a small 8" fan after 10 minutes or so for the colder evening hours. Guess if it gets to bad for a draft will let it burn out, and fall back on oil. But cold weather isn't over here yet!!

Still on the first match. I'm going to nurse my girly boiler through the coming week of warm temps. Nice thing about this stoker. She idles very well. Minimal coal usage. We are not out of the woods yet.

I know not completely reliable, but even aftah that seems mild for several more days.Vangellis wrote:Not sure what I'll do next week, but not exactly coal burning weather.
Kevin
Then we are almost into April..
I'm giving serious thought to shutting down.. for the season...
The coal will be a good start for next year.
I'll probably have an extra ton as it is.
I have natural gas, which is very reasonable right now, and to only want
to raise the average temp 10-15° degrees, is hardly anything.
I'd really rather do that, than have the house 80°, or open windows, even more silly...

I'm to the shake and let it burn out mode, looked at accuweathers 15 day forecast and days 55 to 60 and nights 40 so I can't see wasting coal all day to raise the temp a few degrees in the evening. I guess my word is DONE . I will wait till the first of April to clean it just incase the weatherman is wrong.
Just saw the weather at 11:15pm and by the end of the week they are calling for 70s.

Well, I just had to light my third match. I guess I should of looked at the fire before I left this evening. Not used to having a thinner fire bed now. Boiler temps. never went below 140*, just caught it but not soon enough. One hour and up and going again.
