Hand Fed Coal Stove: Hitzer, 3095

Post by Den034071 » Fri. Nov. 18, 2011 1:35 pm

Fred, Grizzly & Fastcat: Sincere Thanks. You have simplified this tending stove. Generally flue is 150* and stove 290*. I buy Rom Coal and crack it to nut & peas size. Will switch to nut as colder weather arrives. I live in Allentown, PA 40 miles south of Blaschak breaker & the Hazleton (Jeddo) mining areas. I did the dollar test, everything is OK, new gaskets done last year.
Open Question, from BiMetalflap to chain hook-up is 11 3/4 " and 40 some beads, not 25, but flapper works fine. Any comment? I'm going to try your suggestions tonight. Will let you know how I make out.
Thanks again guys, Coal Cracker Jack

First off stay on your first post thread. Forget all about counting beads and measurments, Fred and I figured out that it means nothing due to the fact all the stoves seem to be differant in how many beads. If it is working properly that is all that counts. My stove at night is set on 7 and the stove temp is 280 - 300*. Fred may be on 4 and he might have the same stove temp. So put that out of your head. Each stove has its own personallity no matter what kind it is. This is why our settings may differ from yours and what works for us my not work for you, but it will get you in the ball park.

A stove pipe temp at 150* and a stove side temp of 290* is doing quite well. I figure that a pipe temp that is 1/2 of the stove side temp is doing fairly good. You could probably do even a bit better with a baro. damper set to "3". That sould keep you at about .03 inches of water columb (as measured by a manometer). .03 is about where most of us set the baro. so we maintain an adequate draft, but don't suck more heat than necessary up the chimney. Let us know how you make out with your stove tending techniques.

Has anyone tried to put a larger blower on their 30-95? How did that work out?

Damn George, I think we've run the poor fellow off. ;) As far as Grizz, I think there are so many social activities in Whippleville that he has trouble finding time to visit. Almost like living here in Freetown. toothy
