Anyone know of any way to quiet down the squeek of the shaker? Its the only big inconveinience I have run into thus far. I don't mind it but at 5 am shake-down before work I hate the thought of waking up my 2 year old.So I lightly rock it slighlty back'n'forth. Any high-temp lubes out thier that could work? Its seems to be the loudest at the point the shake arm enters the stove.

A squeek...
Never had that when I shook the Mark II...
More of the Bang of the shakers moving...
I would try a 'Dry Graphite' like that used for door locks...
Most grease will get caked up...

Alright alright not a mouse squeak but a metal on metal rubbing sound. Not so much as a binding noise just think of it as your brake squeelers.

This probably sounds goofy, BUT, make sure your grates/grate is pushed in all the way from the handle side--my Hitzer has some lash in her--doesn't effect shaking but might let grate end contact stove body enough to make noise--???? Anyway--try pushing in from the handle side--could a piece of coal or something be in the grate frame preventing a good seat on the far side??? just throwing thoughts at you anthony--it's usually something simple we've over-looked

Doubtful freetown, I am not in the one match club this year as I already shutdown and restarted already this year. I shutdown here... a couple weeks ago now to install my baro and I did a pretty darn thorough cleaning of everything. Shop-vac and some like pick type tools to get the fines outta the brick edges and hard to reach areas along with some stove-brite glass cleaner. I've watched some youtube vids of some coal stoves in action and one or 2 make the same noise as mine. Im am sure its nothing to worry about mechanically but the quieter the better. I'm gonna pick up some graphite drylube at the hardware store tommorrow, worst case it keeps the moving parts from wearing out as fast.
Oh it has made this noise since install and after the recent cleaning. No real measurable difference after cleaning.

When we had two hand fed units, everybody heard me shake them in the morning.
Just the price of being warm.

Permatex anti seize compound. Good for hinges and any threads you want to remove yearly.

I'm the same way with my family. I'm up at 6:00 shaking down the grates and always paranoid that I'm going to wake the family up, but no one has seemed to be disturbed by it yet. I don't think there's a "quiet" way to shake down your ashes, is there???tsb wrote:When we had two hand fed units, everybody heard me shake them in the morning.

I have just been lightly rockin it back and forth very short distances very slowly until I see the ash to light embers. Does help the noise so its working so-so for now. I have fought once or twice now with some dead spots that took some good pokin
