The house I just bought came with a Harman Mark III. It's missing a fire brick and looks like the asbestos wadding is missing around the glass. other than that it looks to be in good shape.

I've never owned or used a coal stove. Any advice would certainly be helpful.

Firebrick is available at almost any brickyard for about a buck apiece. Most stoves use what are called "splits" that are 1/2 as thick as a normal firebrick, about an 1 1/4" thick.
The gasket is a rope made from a fiberglass like material and is available at most stove shops in a variety of sizes.

Yep, coaledsweat pretty much answered that one. You can get the gasket at the local Lowe's also. If I were you I would fire that baby up and enjoy it.

The manual says I can burn pea, nut or stove coal. Any preferences on that?

Each will provide the equal amount of BTU's per ton but the the nut will burn faster, thepea will allow you to control it easier but takes alittle longer to get it ripping.

Stove is huge and not necessary, generally cost more too.

I have a Mark I, same design as yours only a lower heat output.

Just remember, the window has gasket material on the sides only, to allow secondary air to enter the stove, a sort of "air-wash" that helps keep the glass clean.

I use pea coal in my stove. The nut will work also, I did not have good results with stove size coal.
