I have stove pipe entering a standard chimney flue. It has handmade (by me) metal plates that sit on top of old the flue casing and slide together against the pipe, not a tight fit but not so bad either. I am thinking of putting some insulation up there around the pipe. I know some of you have done this. What type do you use? Thanks.

Do you know what temp it is rated for? Of course, normal operation is a cool pipe. But there may be the occasional hotter start up fire. Thanks.

lite a match to it . it won't burn . I have some stuffed against the side of my stove at the outlet pipe to complete the box around my hitzer . it gets glowing hot sometimes no problems .

When I insert my 6" stove pipe in my 8" flue inlet I fill in the gap around the whole pipe with regular fiberglass
insulation. Been doing this for 7 seasons now with no problems. It was suggested by a lady at the local stove shop.

I too have used fiberglass insulation. If no room for fiberglass, use high heat silicone caulking.

I stuffed some R38 around my chimney liner and throat. I pulled the backing off of it though. Been running it that way for several seasons starting with my over-fired wood stove.
