Question-what are you supposed to do with the ash from burning coal in a stove? I've talked to a couple guys that said they use it for their driveway to help with traction in Winter, but someone else said that it's a toxic waste. So what how are you supposed to dispose of it? Is the ash really forming a poisonous cloud that's being inhaled every time I have to maintain the stove?

Like any nuisance dust, you don't want to be breathing a bunch of it. I put it out for the trash man.

Northeast PA. As for the driveway, it's just packed gravel/stone/dirt. But I heard this from others who use it for that, and I'm not finding much in the way of guidance on the topic. People with ashes from wood just dump it wherever, so I didn't know what you're supposed to do with coal ash.

It has trace amounts of nasty stuff. Don't put it on your veggie garden. Put it in the driveway. It's been discussed many times here. Do a search for ash disposal and I'm sure you will find some ideas. r

If you get your coal in bags, just save a few bags and fill them up,
and send them out with your trash.
