I'd buy the used one that is in the classifieds, give it a coat of fresh stove paint in your choice of colors and save $600, put the savings into your hearth and chimney.

Even if you have to rent a truck to go get it it would be less than a new one, and just as good.

I'm not interested in used. I have no way of knowing its mechanical condition, and even if I found one that was nice, how would I get it delivered?

The Kodiak is on hold till Tuesday, but I don't like that you have to open the ash door to shake the grate--that would make for dust to escape while shaking

If I could find a used Mark I within driving condition, I'd buy it for now. I have two flues which of only one is in use. I want to be able to burn the small unit when the weather is not really cold enough for the blast furnace in the basement to be fired up.

Ron, these stoves are very simple products. If the doors open and close, the grate handle moves the grates, and there are no holes rusted through [virtually impossible] then the stove is worth the price.

I know many people feel that if something isn't new it isn't any good. But these stoves are close to buying a used anvil. They are pretty indestructable. A Harman stove is made from either 3/16" or 1/4" plate steel, made to last a lifetime.

As for delivery, if you post where you live, you may find someone on the forum who may be willing to help with pickup and delivery.

Where there is a will there is a way.

I have a Mark I and am very satisfied with it. It was going through a lot of coal until I checked the draft and installed a baro damper. I had too much draft, the damper allowed me to obtain longer burn times and more heat per load of coal.

I'd consider the used Harmon.

I can't believe the dealer won't order the stove you want!, sounds like he wants to sell one he has in stock. When I bought mine the dealer had the brass trim models and the plain, it's really only the loading door and a few other pieces.

What is sticking out on the left side of yours? Someone has a used MKI near Syracuse NY, which is a several hours away. How would I get it delivered? I would need help also getting it in my home.

On the left side...let's see...
Looking at the stove as it is in the picture...it might be one of the other objects around the stove. I'll post 2 more views. Also, I had a manometer connected at the time, I just installed the baro damper. You can see the manometer connections in the pictures.

I picked up the stove with my van, and had 2 friends help me remove it. We then secured it to my hand truck and moved it into the house.

The shaft with the brass handle is to shake the grates. Some units have them permanently attatched, some are removable and you access the shaft by opening the ash door.
Behind the stove there is a metal pail with a lid and a pair of gloves.

Thanks Coaledsweat for recognizing that Ron was asking about the shaker lever. That's what I get for trying to do 2 things at once. Yes that is a metal pail and gloves.....

I was pouring cement today and must have gotten some of it in the noggin...

Where does one purchase that Dywer manometer and how much does it cost?

Can I make one using tubing and ATF? I made one to balance the throttle bodies on my V-2 cylinder motorcycle engine.

I got mine on Ebay.

There is one for sale right now, auction closes in an hour. They cost around $35-40 new.

Hey Cap the Harman mark 1 is in the free classifieds section on this forum it is the third one on the list Ethan as it 600.00 is half price from a new one check it out do you want to take a ride 194 miles let me know it is only 339lbs with both of us no problem we can take my appliance truck along strap it on and wheel it out give me a call take care talk to you later
