DS Machine Stove Madness--Do You Have It ?

Modern and vintage hand fired coal stove are similar to a wood stove and in some cases can burn either. They need to be regulated and fed by hand usually every 12 to 24 hours depending on your usage. They require no power to operate making them ideal for rural settings with long power outages.

I could be wrong, but to my knowledge only the DS-1600 (and its Basement #4 cousin) has a removable hopper.

Info out there may be not up to date...but I've seen all 4-sizes of the Circulators and both Basement models (#3 & #4) w/ hopper options. So, that would be 6 models w/ hoppers available.

To see many, many coal units online @ one site...http://www.wilsoncoal.com/stoves.html

Lots of DS models have hoppers. I was only commenting about removable hoppers.

All the hoppers are removable (i think) I don't believe they are using the non removable hoppers anymore.

If you do not want to use a hopper get a stove without, cause the baffeling at the top is differant to keep the heat in.

When they put the hopper in some of that baffel gets cut out and the hopper takes its place, then the heat will go around the hopper, If you run a hopper stove with out a hopper you will lose some efficiency.

Just my thoughts, Eric

Ask Amos...
I think you can have just about any stove they make...
Just about any way you want...
The designs are modular...
you can mix and match...
BTW 'WH' is with hopper on the above listed web site...
When I got mine I asked for what I wanted on my stove...
They had one in red with the parts I wanted in stock so I ordered red... ;)

Here is a good company and website selling DS Stoves located in southern New Jersey.

http://messickstove.com/Stoves_DS_Machine_Stove_Menu.html

I did call a dealer in Falls Creek, Pennsylvania and was quoted a few prices. These price examples should help anyone looking for a DS make a decision. This particular dealer was very helpful and friendly. And I also got a call back from a dealer in Hunlock Creek who was equally as friendly and knowledgeable. Very impressed with the dealers!

DS 1500 Circulator with hopper: $ 1,488.00

DS Energy Max 110: $ 2,030.00

DS 300-9 Furnace with blower. $ 2,950.00

Thanx for all the good links,Guys ! As best as I can see, when Harman fell down,DS Machine Stoves now owns the Bullet-Proof Hand Fired Market. The Chubby Jr. & Sr. hold their own for what they can do,but these "warehouses" of Heat really appear ready to take on all tasks without requiring electricity. That's worth its' weight in Gold if you ask me ! Carry On with the "Madness",Gang !! Oh,and yes,I know Freetown Fred is going to beat me over the head with his Hitzer for this one !

Have a beautiful new DS 1500 Circulator. I bought straight from D.s. Machine Shop. They were great to work with. I got to pick the stove, so my lady got to pick a color. She went with almond. I liked the color too. The guys at the shop said it was the first time they painted one that color, but they all really like it out there. You can see the scratches in the paint a lot faster, but I bought some touch up paint from them. Question for you guys with the D.S. Circulators. Do you use a barometric damper on your stove? It has an automatic temp control that seems to work really well. The temp stays really steady. Of course it hasn't been real cold out yet. Any thoughts?

You can or you can use a MPD your choice, just have a CO detector, and know what you are doing.
