To answer the above 2-part question,Answer#1-"Yes,as that's what started this thread and the "DS Stoves Madness" and Answer #2,an emphatic and pathetic "No". In this economy, and with this current Marxist President,I've stopped spending money-period. Debt-Free is the only way to remove the "Golden Handcuffs" that we put on ourselves with spending decisions and the false sense of security that this is America and things are going to get better,so buy it on payments. When the time and money are correct, this issue will be solved. And for all my "Lib" pals out there,Relax,!for the Republican Prez Candidates 'aint making it,either. I fear they're actually Obama Campaign workers in disguise.  For right now,it 's just like at the Drag Strip. Namely,"Run What Brung" or "Go With What You've Got".....

I'm having trouble finding details of the DS stoves. They don't seem to have their own web site or dealer locator, so when you Google them you just find sites for a few dealers, and minimal information about the stoves.

They don't have cars or electric, so they are not much into advertising. If you got a question, I can probably answer or call them :)

The DS shop is not 'pure' Amish...
They have a nice shop, electric, forklifts and phones...
No web site but the dealers have a decent listing...
Drop by have a look, talk to the folks there...
I brought my truck while visiting friends in PA...
So I could bring back a stove if I liked what I saw...
DS Basement #4 is keeping the house warm and quiet as I type...

Various dealers have online images and brief descriptions of the DS stoves. I have been looking at the 1400 and the 1200, but I am puzzled. The 1200 is somewhat smaller and a huge 240 pounds lighter than the 1400, yet the 1200 has a bigger firebox and higher BTU rating. The stoves look similar, but the 1400 is described as a circulator and the 1200 is not. Can anyone shed light on the comparison of the two?

Also, any strong feelings on whether a DS stove should be ordered with the coal hopper, or without? :?:

I don't think the 1200 is a circulator, strictly a radiant stove, they are lighter weight, cause the tubes and all the extra metal, add size and weight to the circulators.

The DS-1600 has a removable hopper, so if you like it you can leave it in and use it, and if you don't like it you can take it out.

They are removable...
At least on the Basement #4...

Holds 35-45 pounds...

To sum it all up...if you're burning wood and/or bit. coal, you don't need or want a hopper.

If burning anthracite, it is highly recommended to get the hopper, it is a great enhancement to burn control. And as *C.C.* said, It can be removed if/when required.
