Are all Barometric Dampers the same, and if not - which ones are good options for coal stove?

Thanks,

Mike

No, they are not all the same. The Fields Type RC is for coal or oil. They also make another model also for coal or oil but the model number eludes me.

The Field type RC is the one most often recommended in this forum. It is sensitive and works well but has a deficiency in that there is a gap around the flap that remains unsealed even when closed. In warmer weather or with low draft conditions it continues to lower draft by cooling the chimney further making it harder to maintain a low fire. If you have a metal chimney this reduces flue temperature leading to further condensation of corrosive flue gas and lower chimney life.

The type M is more expensive but is much better sealed, at least in the ones I have seen. It is the one I would recommend.
