When you replaced it, did the new, flat piece of glass fit flat in the door opening??
In other words, is there any twisting stress on the glass when it's fastened into the door?

I don't know how big the crack is but when my Hitzer was new about a month of burning and the glass cracked from the corner about an inch and a half. I had noticed when I tended the stove and shut it up that I had a small blue flame there each time, I asumed there was an air leak there. Hitzer sent me a new one with the gasket already on it so I replaced it and made sure there was a good seal, now no more flames and it hasn't cracked after three months. Is the stove new? If so call DS and see what they say.

Mine was a thin gasket U shape so the edges and sides of the glass didn't touch any metal.

working on the second season...
no glass cracking...
The metal clips are installed 'wiggly' not tight...
so the glass can move...
and not crack...

Cape Coaler what stops the air from coming in around the glass?

The glass sits on the cast door with a lip on the bottom...
4 clips hold the glass against the 'working' or hot side of the door...
If the clips are screwed in too tight the glass is not able to move and will crack from the stress...
So just snug then backed off 1/8 of a turn...
I guess you could modify the design and use thin flat gasket...
But the issue of over tightening the clamps is still there...

Ouch and no,never had a problem on the Harman Stoker eating rice. I would expect on the hand fed it would be a different story. Start checking all your basics, even down to your door gasket and latching handle/handles.

A metal/glass/metal sandwich doesn't sound right.. I'd check with the manufacturer,, I'm thinking the glass should have had a thin gasket protecting
the glass from direct contact with steel. Like you have now

Where is John located in Volant? Got an address?

I would like to stop and see where he is and check out his stoves.
My daughter goes to Westminster College in nearby New Wilmington.

The glass cracked in my Hitzer 30-95 after about 1 year. It made a fairly loud "POP". I was changing the ROBAX glass when I noticed the door was slightly warped from end to end. The U shaped gasket if fairly thick so I got a good seal without tightening the screws very much that hold the metal inside glass retaining strips. A year later it is doing fine. I think tight screws and a warped door caused the crack.

Perhaps they are Amish, and have no phone...and no Sunday business hours.
