I have a Hitzer 503 insert installed in our fireplace. The stove has been run a couple of times so far this fall / winter for about a week per run. The 503 runs great with absolutely no issues. Today I got to looking at the setup a little more and a few questions came to mind. The fireplace has a hearth in front of it that is a concrete slab with tile on top. From where the front of the stove sits to the hardwood flooring is about 8". I have a stoveboard placed against the front of the stove and extending 32" out for ember protection. Does this setup look OK?

I think Hitzers specs say 16" in the front of stove and 8" on the sides so you should be good. You could also extend the tile outwards in the future if you wanted to. Nice stove and I like the set up.

We were a little shy on the hearth also...
Did the same thing works fine...
The 503 is a toploader and the front glass stays shut...
Empty the ash pan daily and have had no issues with embers/hot coals yet...

I have the same setup, even the same tile, except I have carpet instead of hardwoods. I think yours looks better than mine.

Thanks for the info. For the couple of times we have run the unit, it does not seem to get the floor under it all that warm. This is the first time I have had a stove that sits directly on the ground (no legs) and I got to thinking about the amount of heat that the tile would be subjected to as well as the proximity of the wood floor. I guess there is a few inches of air space under the grates. Thanks again.
