Better Coal Scoop?
Hi All,
Well after destroying my piece of crap little coal shovel on the Nut size, I picked up one from Tractor Supply, It wasnt much better..it held up but ya end up chasing coal that falls off the edge at every filling.
SO I DECIDED TO BUILD MY OWN~!, it is 1/16" rolled steel with a nice heavy handle.
check out the pics, Opinions wanted....this Scoop will hold a couple lbs. of coal and I have yet to chase any that didnt want to be burned!....lol
Could possibly turn out a few if anyone wants.
later,
Tim

Wow, I'm impressed! Ditto to what Bud said. I'd be second in line if you should decide to make and sell a few. I've been using a feed scoop and I'm on my second in two years. You just might have a new career. No one sells the quality products we are willing to pay for anymore.....well, some still do, but you could sell every one you can make. Nice job, excellent execution...count me in also.
PS: we need a flat shovel that will slide in the clean-out door for hand-feds that are DURABLE and don't fold up like a .......______________________fill in the blank.....32" long, 6 to 8" at the face, 6 to 8" deep to bring out the stubborn ashes in the back of the boiler. The ash pans a re OK, but that is only about 1/2 the job.

Looks nice! How did you roll the curve into the steel?
A Jutol 507? I had one & someone taught me this: The ash pan does not live in the stove. It is used as a shovel to load the stove as well as a shovel to empty the ashes. That's why it's three sided.Poconoeagle wrote: might be a good fuel feeder for the jotul.

Nice scoop, Tim. What is the overall weight? I found a durable, but a bit too small, conventional coal shovel. But side spillage is definitely a problem.
The transfer shovel pictured below is in its third year and going strong. I use it not only for transferring coal from bin to hod, but it's great as a winter driveway ice scraper. Tempered steel scoop, with a deep-enough body to be effective. Fits your desribed needs well, except may be a bit too large. The D-handle would also allow good control for reaching ash in far corners.whistlenut wrote: PS: we need a flat shovel that will slide in the clean-out door for hand-feds that are DURABLE and don't fold up like a .......______________________fill in the blank.....32" long, 6 to 8" at the face, 6 to 8" deep to bring out the stubborn ashes in the back of the boiler. I have that same exact shovel. Except I paid $19 for it from the local Feed Supply by my house.AA130FIREMAN wrote:Grainger has them, seems like tractor supply sells them also, I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE THE PRICE, SHOULD BE A GOLD SCOOP http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/AMPCO-HandSugar- ... Pid=search
