Hand Fed Coal Stove: Alaska Kast Console II Hearth

Post by cowentz » Mon. Sep. 20, 2010 11:07 am

I have a Harman Mark II that I have cleaned up, and painted and am getting ready to install. I burned some wood in it outside this weekend to burn the new paint smell off. and I noticed the glass in the door does not have a gasket that goes the whole way around. It wraps the sides and top and bottom corners but is open a few inches across the top and bottom like this [ ]. Is this correct or do I need to replace it with one that wraps the whole way around? Also is it ok to have a Tee run horizontial straight out the back of the stove with a baro or is that too close to the stove to have a baro?

The gasket is supposed to be that way. It's supposed to let air wash over the glass and keep it cleaner, plus it gives some secondary air which helps in burning wood or bit. I'm sure there's some baro experts who can chime in on your other question. I just bought a used Mark III; getting ready to do what you just finished doing. How about a pic?
