Well thanks to you guys who have been so helpful while I have been learning about coal stoves we now have an operational coal stove in the corner of the living-room!!
Last night I fired it up will the windows open to burn the paint smell off and let it idle all night at about 200 F. The Labrador has not left his doggy bed beside the stove since and seems to be very pleased with the results so far.
I managed to get about 10.5 more pounds of pea coal into it this morning and was rewarded by the blue ladies dancing for me after a very gentle shake down to wake them up.
So now the real learning curve begins with the first step being the experimentation on how low I can idle this this stove down without loosing it!!

Congradulations! You won't regret making the move to coal. You'll do just fine, besides if you have any questions in the future I'm sure someone on this great site will fill you in. Enjoy the heating season.
