If it is in the basement then the DS Machine, if upstairs then the Hitzer.

- Other Heating: Happy thoughts, good wool and a little propane.
Probably could not go wrong with either stove!! (Assuming they are putting out enough BTU's for your application!!)
I had a DSM, the 50-93 and the Kodiak on my list when I went shopping and ended up with a Kodiak that I found used!!
I was not able to see a DSM in person, but have only heard good things about them and would like to see one at some point!!

I think they are both really nice stoves. They can produce the heat you need and are quality made. See what stove it is that you really like best. The final decision is yours.

I know that you've found a couple of good hand feds that will do the job. Comes with the best owner's manual you'll ever find on the face of this earth The stove is a tank and is ready to go.

I have to agree with buck24(and others). They are both good stoves! I have seen the DS Machine stove in person. In my opinion, the HITZER is a nicer looking stove for the living quarters. In the basement, it doesn't matter.buck24 wrote:I think they are both really nice stoves. They can produce the heat you need and are quality made. See what stove it is that you really like best. Both good stoves neither is a bad choice...
If you need the heating capability toward the upper end...
Or need a longer burn...
The DSM Basement #4 holds 175# of coal...
That is a total from empty grate to top of the hopper...
I don't know the total for the hitzer 50-93...
Amos at DSM can setup the stove just about any way you like...
If it is going upstairs you can pretty it up...
One of the members has a Basement #4 with the circulator tubes...
or a 130k Hot Air Circulator...
Pictures of Your Stove
If you are looking to go without fans The DSM stove are great...
Needed more heat and did not like the fan noise from my Harman Mark II...
Did lots of research and picked up the DSM Basement #4...
The only other choice was a Coal Boiler but that will be a bigger project...
Love the DSM stoves...

RLB112,
I have the 130k BTU circulator, and it is great, the hopper is so awesome. When I went away from the stoker and back to a hand fed I decided on the DS, got it towards the end of last season, can't wait for this winter, sad but after this summer I am sort of hoping for 20degrees every day for a month so I can really get this thing cranking. If you decide on the DS weather it is a basement or circulator they are all but 600lb make sure your steps are stong enough to support this weight if its going in a basement, you don't want that thing falling on you , it might ruin your day
Best of luck on what ever you get, Eric
