how long should it take before one would see a significant amount of ash? burning for 18hrs. shake grates, no ash. burning fine, nice blue flame, house steady 75*, full bright glow under grates in ash pan. don't get me wrong, if fire keeps going and no ash, what would be wrong with that? who wouldn't want that? lol
just wondering, kurt

The first 18 or more hrs. is like the honeymoon of coal burning.
Depending on the size of coal you are burning it may take some
time to get complete ash. Don't worry ash will arrive. The
honeymoon will end and the real work begins. Still better than wood.
