To the Blashak users, I was wondering what your ashes look like burning Blashak nut coal.I used Jeddo coal last year and although dirty compared to the blashak the ashes seemed to be smaller and finer looking. The blashak is burning well but the ashes are larger pieces instead of finer graduals. Is this normal ?

It seems normal to me. My ashes look crumbly, like granola. Now that the cold has finally arrived and I'm burning the fire hotter, they will get more fine. Lisa

Mine look extremely fine when compared to the Kimmels bagged nut that I burned the past 4 seasons. Whiter in color too.

Lisa, I couldn't have described it better !!! Granola, LOL. Yep, That's it. O.K. Makes sense about being different with a hotter burn. Right now I am only running a 150 temp 12'' above the flue. Thanks.lowfog01 wrote:It seems normal to me. My ashes look crumbly, like granola. Now that the cold has finally arrived and I'm burning the fire hotter, they will get more fine. Lisa

When I burned Blaschak pea it was a fine dust with a few small chunks and clinkers here and there. Mostly tan in color. It was very fine because I burned it in a hand fed and manually shook it.

Stack is at 200 according to magnetic thermometer resting on 90° elbow right at stove exit, but with infared thermometer, it reads 160° about a foot up from there. 400° on sides of stove a few inches below top.Jack Magnum wrote:Smitty, How hot you burning ? I get some large soft klinkers but they break up fairly easy with Harmons grate system. It's been cooking at about 130-140 on the exhaust pipe. I'm burning Blaschak nut right now. Pea burns just as good, just smaller and a little more burn time. This is my 4th season with this stove.
