I've been trying Pea to keep the fire down during the day. Seems to be working well. You'd think it was out when I go to tend it. I turn it up late afternoon until bedtime. I guess this is what Pea can do as it packs tighter allowing less air to move threw slowing the fire down. I can't seem to find good info on Pea yet and it's Pro's Cons ..Price of a Barrel of Oil went up over the weekend because the economy is picking up.Darn Jerks..
On my Harman I keep the intake open 1/4 turn during the day. 1 1/2 turns late afternoon to about 8pm then back down to 3/4 turn for bedtime. Temps have been low 40's nights, 50's days some damp. But since Mon. Holiday they are 40's for highs..31 lows.. I kept the same settings as the colder air creates a stronger draft I find and runs the stove hotter.

Cheers

I used my match about two weeks ago :) . Because this is my only heat, I don't like it when it gets below 60 deg in the house. :x

i burn a mix of nut and pea mainly, with the stray nugget of stove.when I want a nice really slow burn I cut the air down to 1/4 and through 2 scoops of rice across the top.works great for me! :)

I have been burning the green Jotul 507 24/7 since last winter. I shut it down this summer for two weeks for cleaning and such, then it was back online 24/7. It has been a cold and damp summer here. I have both the red and green Jotul 507's online 24/7 now, they are burning at an idle keeping the house a nice 73 F. I am burning about 30 lbs of nut coal every 24 hours. This is not too bad considering that both stoves are idling at a temp of 260-300 F. I hope I will not have to burn coal through next summer again. I love burning coal, however, burning coal to keep the house warm during the summer months is just crazy. Never had to run the air conditioning, it never got warm enough to shut down the stove. With the addition of the Red Jotul 507b this year, I am expecting to see my coal consumption increase by about twenty pounds per day. Looking at how much coal I am burning now at an idle with both stoves online compared to running just one stove last season, seems to indicate this will be the case. I am ok with this due to the fact the addition of the red Jotul will take some of the heating load off of the green Jotul and make heating the house easier and make the heat in the house more even. The wife is happy with the 73 F temp as well. I am hoping that I will have measurable snow on the ground by the end of the month.

The snowman.

I lit the Axeman with the allotted match 4 days ago. It will burn until warm weather hits....next May?

I think I accidentally hit the efficient settings. It's run so little I've been afraid of an outfire, but it has kept going so far. It isn't running enough to auger enough coal to fill the chamber....Axeman users know what I mean. But, not only does it auger jussst enough to stay lit, it seems to be leaving very little if any unburned coal. With it not *full* the fire stays in a small pile. Usually it's the coal on the edges that doesn't burn well, but by the time the coal gets to the edges, it's already burned. Sweet! It's been 4 full days & the ash pan isn't quite half full.

Settings: Aquastat 145-165. High limit 183. Ash temp 120, two clicks. Draft .2 at idle. It is staying 150 to 185. Burning Superior pea.

Started my stove Monday night 10/12 and will shut it down sometime around the middle of April.
I also bought a spare door kit for my stove this year. Just in case I have a glass problem, all I have to do is switch the doors
and I can keep burning. I was going to do that last season and never got around to it. Price for the kit went up $26.00 from last year.
I'll buy my last ton at the end of this month and I'll be good for the season.
