OK... You talked me into it...along with the 28* this morning & the forecast of 40's the whole next week. Fire in the hole! From ignition to a full temp in about an hour. No more paying the Arabs this year.

I'm jealous. My husband still has the matches under lock and key. I've just about got him convinced to let me test fire the stove later this month but that will only be a "temporary fix" for my "addiction." People think I’m crazy because I'm actually looking forward to the drop in cold. :D I say bring it on!

WHAT? That's grounds for divorce! Oh....wait....it's probably not. :) Maybe someone that held the fire all summer has an extra match & would mail it to you. ;)

Good deal! 28* here this morning too. 46* right now. It also snowed for about 20 minutes here this morning and then turned to rain. Skies have cleared since then and veeeeery windy.

Living in Ellsworth, where do you buy coal? Bagged or loose? What's the price?

I get my coal from Downeast Coal. Paid the same price that I did last year $325 per ton bagged. They also deliver it for free if over 2 ton for my area. here is their website http://www.downeastcoal.com/ they also have a forum, with a lot less users than this one, but they are a very knowledgeable bunch, and are very helpful. I could prolly get my coal cheaper elsewhere but its a loyalty thing, they have earned my respect and I will give them my business.

Probably couldn't get it cheaper -- that's $5 more than I paid in the Augusta area, but the dealers here don't do free delivery. It was up by about $30 a ton this year compared to last.

I am seeking some advise. I have a Franco Belge 10.1475 model and I used it one season last winter. I did not get around to cleaning the rear flues on the unit. Does this need to be done every year or could I get away with running it another season?

I'm burning.

Got back from my cross country drive last night to a cold and cranky wife.

Lit it up this morning.

Clean the Franco. It should be checked again after 30 days, then you'll have an idea if you need to clean it once a month or once every 6 months or a year. A lot depends on the coal you burn, the draft, how hot you run it. It's important to keep it cleaned and just as, or more important, to have a CO alarm.

Fired mine up last thursday 10/8 was a little depressing seemed too early two weeks early compared to last year. With the temps being what they are this week more than happy to have it pumping the heat.

Fire in the hole today at 2:00 PM. Finished cleaning out the stove pipe today. I wanted to make sure I got that elbow where it goes into the chimney real good so I used an 1 /14" small shop vac hose to reach all the way in thru the damper. Worked good.....not much ash at all..

Burning Blaschak in 40 lb bags..........feels good........
