Barometric Damper? Do I Need One?

What would be the benefit of having the baro away from the stove top,Would it be because that way its not taking air (hot)right off the top of the stove.Mine is only about 8 inches above the stove top

You could mount it in the horizontal that runs to the thimble or if it faces forward, simply turn it 180* toward the wall so it isn't pulling heat risisng from the stove.

I took everyone's advice and installed a baro and a manometer - I believe it will be $100 well spent.
I'm ready - it just needs to get a little bit colder.
