So here I am at a work lunch today, some associates from another concern visiting, not too much to speak about so to begin some idle chit chat I mention I'm burning coal this winter. WELL, it was like I grew a instant HORN on my forehead, first thing was it's dirty, thats why they had "Spring Cleaning in the old days" , was waiting for the GREEN thing to come up but it didn't.
Then I say it's no colder than 69 F in my house, one Manager (she) says "better not come to my house, its 58 F at night".

No need to continue this discussion.

Are we recluses?

You can lead them to water, but you can't make them drink! You can hold their heads underwater, but you can't make them open their mouths................
There are 3 kinds of people: Those who make things happen, those who watch thinks happen, and the majority: those who wonder what the 'H' happened. I know you are not in the latter groups, but millions are......nuff said!

They are the sheep. The ones that herd to one cash register at Wally World while a couple more registers are open 20 feet down the row.

When I live in NYC I called it the "Wildebeest phenomena" Everyone would crowd in one line after getting off the subway to walk up the steps. I would always walk past them an use the other staircase 20 feet away. Most people walk around in a daze and just follow the other fool in front of them.

Every watched the National Geo show when the Widerbeest all follow each other into the same spot across the River, making a big mudslide, and drowning....

I live in SE CT and grew up staying warm from heat radiated from cast iron kitchen ranges and had fired coal furnaces. It is amazing today in this same location how many folks have no idea what coal heat is all about. I have taken numerous people in our house and showed them our living room coal heater and they can't believe how nice the heat is and how clean it burns.

Here's what I tell 'em: I've got 23 electric baseboards but my direct coal warm-air heat is not only a ton cheaper than electric but greener too because I'm not subject to the massive line losses between the coal-fired plants and my house.
