Morning all. New to the group and have some questions regarding my "possible" multi fuel stove. I have a Riteway 35c6 stove. I can't find a single thing online whether it is for sure wood/coal stove. I've been burning wood for years in it and wanted to give coal a try. Any input will be great. I'm attaching a photo of the ID tag

I will get some of the actual unit when I get home. Just can't find anything about the model online and it could use some minor repair parts.

Mind you, when I got it, it had a metal shroud around it that was damaged so I removed it.

Look at Riteway model 37as I don’t see much difference as for construction. But I would buy model 37 parts without someone confirming that the parts interchange between the 2.

What parts? You could compare measurements with someone’s 37.

I can see it has different front doors and air intake on side than my 37. It appears to have the same or similar fire circulation system inside because of the handle in the front.

I dont know what the inside of Riteways wood models look like but I have posted pics of my inside of my 37 this fall sometime. There are some online too and others on this site.

If you do burn coal, leaving the handle on the front closed does keep the heat in the stove longer. Ignore those on other sites online saying the fire leaves the stove quicker using the bottom exhaust because its closer to the fire. I posted a video proving that a year ago or so. Closing that lever does nothing to the looks of the fire. It does not go straight out the bottom as some (mostly wood burners) think. It circulates. Wood fires or coal fires.

I need all the fire brick retainers and new fire brick.

Get some measurements. Bricks can be bought locally just match the size. Retainers will take extra effort...measurements may reveal a current production stove model may be the way to go for them??
Hint: Hitzer for retainers, perhaps a model 82 could fit??

If the retainers just hold them against steel walls, use furnace cement instead... I wet the brick and the steel before applying the cement for my Harman sf260. The cement actually held the bricks better than the clips that had rusted off

So with that being said, after I replace the fire bricks, is this something that I can burn coal in? Obviously I'll be cleaning the chimney and stove pipes to clear any creosote that's there. We usually only burn in it during the colder months and not a primary source of heat, just difficult to maintain a good wood fire due to nobody's home for 10-11 hrs during the day. It does help heat the upstairs of the house being in my basement and not to mention, I can't stand hearing the furnace run.

(typed before last reply) ... If their the cast iron retainers that go the length of the stove and have a break or two but can still be used, use them. New ones are quite expensive and if your wall is warped they will also break. Mine has a couple breaks but work fine. You can always drill an extra hole if you need too, right thru the retainer and wall of the stove... but be careful with cast iron as it doesnt bend. And dont tighten them real tight so there is kind of a space for heat and cold movement.

Or take the advice of the previous two posts. Any of them should work fine.

My bricks are straight out of the box from a hardware store. No cutting was needed. Standard size.

Can you post a couple good pics of the inside including the grate?

It's a shame that you removed the shroud from that heat monster. The units were designed for the shroud as they were primarily convection type heaters. Since you are using it in the basement, and if you still have the shroud, you might want to consider trying to use it. I think you might see a big difference in your heat.

Use the “exclamation mark” “!” up on right side next to “quote mark” “ “ “
Then input what applies…easy as that! 😀
