I heard about this last year but I was working and couldn’t make it. Recently I found out this is an annual thing. This year I am off and plan to attend. Maybe some others would be interested. It is a late night so it is not for everyone. Valley View park is outside of the village of Valley View in Schuylkill county, it is about 2 or 3 miles from Superior Coal Preparation.
Unique film night that features videos of local anthracite coal deep mining. Films this year include migration of miners to the Anthracite Coal Field and an investigation of the improvement of the stoker from the late 1950's and others.
Let’s hope this fakebook link works.

This turned out to be a great evening. Due to the recent passing of David A Lucas the night was mostly a tribute to him. They had over an hours worth of footage taken back in '96 of David A. Although it was amateur video taken with a VCR camera recorder it was very educational if you listened to what was said. Granted, with David A that could be hard to do.

They say this video will be shown again at Pioneer Tunnel sometime in September. Anyone interested may want to check it out.

This was the fifth year for this event (Old Anthracite Coal Miner's Movie Night) and as far as I know it will happen again next year.

Thanks for this post, I'll keep my eye out for the movie night this year. I only live an hour from valley view so I'll make the trip up there!

Looks like it will be back for 2021! July 3 at 8:30. https://www.facebook.com/valleyviewparkpa/
Unique film night that features videos of local anthracite coal deep mining.
This year's films and photos feature the Kintzel Coal Company's deep mine in Joilet and The Kroh Coal Company deep mine on the Sherman Mountain.
These films are shown on the original movie screen from the Tremont Movie Theater.
Food and drink will be available for purchase at the hamburger and soda stand.
I plan to be there but my situation is fluid and subject to change.
