Forum member Jack (Den034071) recently has been gracious enough to send me some artifacts that he has came upon through the years concerning the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company. I thank him greatly for sending these to me and feeding my ever growing addiction to the history of the PA Anthracite fields. My family has hauled anthracite coal from the breakers and back across the State of PA for 4 generations so I suppose you can say that I am well rooted in the hard coal fields. Thank the Good Lord that there are still some articles floating around such as these that give us a glimpse back in time and many thanks to those that continue to preserve the history, such as Jack.

As part of the deal, it was requested that I post some of these for all to enjoy, so I was able to hang them on the refrigerator with magnets to photograph them. Here they are, and once again Jack, thank you. Perhaps he can comment on these a little bit further than I when he sees this.

What is the meaning of "Navigation" company? Did they have ships?

They had canals & barges to haul coal.

Wow, that's real interesting. 83 bucks for a weeks work in 1949 for Mr. Trubilla. About 15 years ago I worked with a guy named Trubilla and now that I think of it he lived a few miles south of Tamaqua PA. I will have to give him a call some time and see if he is related.

Another interesting thing is the sales flyer. Note that they don't mention Rice coal. Probably before Rice coal became popular.
