My EV car needs repair ... coolant leak + Hyundia making plug in hybrids again

The Chevy Volt has 2 coolant systems....one for the ICE engine and other for EV battery system.

The leak is in the ICE engine system. I think its a rubber gasket failure that is on the engine block.

Should be a simple fix. I made an appt for the car to be repaired...for 2nd week of Sept.

Currently, the car runs on EV fine..so I can go 30-40 miles without issue.

All the coolant leaks out when the ICE kicks in ... in about 15 min., all gone. Then if having EV battery power left, the car runs fine on EV mode; if no EV battery power available, its like a regular ICE car...broke down.

I did learn that Hyudia is again making plug in hybrids...similar idea as Volt...FYI

Hybrids are the way to go, but the government can't control you as easily in one of those as they can in an EV. That's why all you'll hear about with this current administration is, "EV's are going to save the world!". And the sheep bleet.

Should be an easy fix (relatively) with a leak that big.

If the government can control electricity they can also control gasoline. Hell. all they would have to do is pull the fifth fleet out of the Persian gulf and 30% of the worlds oil would be vulnerable. Gas rationing in WW2. So I don't see how that argument holds water. If anything I would say EV cars make you more independent since electricity can be home grown.

Are you going to drive around with a generator & 20 gallons of gasoline in the car? Just buy a gas powered car.

The things have *censored* range, and take forever to recharge. Add extreme cold or extreme heat to the mix, or a heavy load, and things go south FAST. Not what I want my life to depend on.

I do drive with a generator. The car has one built within it by design. It allows unlimited miles w/o recharging the batteries being needed. Just like a ICE only car

In summer, I can get 40 miles....in winter ~30 miles. In all ev mode.

Takes about 12 hr to get 15 kwh when "empty" via 120v...about 4 hrs via 240v. I can do either.

I still have a ICE car and I use that for long hauls sometimes...to save gas money...it gets 30% better MPG and uses regular gas (v Volt Gen1 that requires 91 octane gas).

Thats what Smitty and me wants ^^ 200% chick magnet as a bonus

He has a point with the abrupt stop of gasoline. It's hard to make an alternative at home. Of course I'm thinking about a SHTF scenario. Not an everyday type thing. I agree with you though, I would only consider a hybrid vs a bev.

All you need is 300+ miles and many fast chargers.. They are on the way...

Most people drive ~45 miles or less per day...So charge every 5 days...

No big deal ... Charge at night or when your car is not used...

Most cars sit for 90% of the time anyway...

hyundai and kia have engine failure issues. not sure i'll buy another one. sold my santa fe in 2021 because the engine was rattling on startup. still have the sonata hybrid.
